Townsend – William Harrell Rigdon, 95, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026, in Townsend under the care of his family and Georgia Hospice Care. Born in Metter, he lived in Hinesville most of his life after traveling during his military career, settling on the Georgia coast several years ago. He retired from the US Army after 20 years of service, serving one tour in Vietnam, and retired from civil service at Ft. Stewart. In his retirement, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and piddling, and was a member of Gum Branch Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Mattie Moon Rigdon, a daughter, Glenda Kay Warren, granddaughters, Tina Depasquale, Chrissy Ritter, and Jeanie Ritter, and a grandson, Angelo Depasquale.
Survivors are his daughters, Teresa Nolting (Charles) of Townsend and Robin Barfield (Robert) of Walthourville; sons, Wayne Rigdon (Sylvia) of Townsend, and Mark Rigdon (Candy) of Tifton; 3 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Sunday, April 26, at 2:30 PM at Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery in Candler County with Pastor Liston Wainright officiating.
Visitation will be from 2-2:30 PM at the graveside.
