Darien – Wanda Sue O’Berry, 69, died Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at her residence. Born in Quitman, she lived in McIntosh County all of her life and retired as Chief Tax Appraiser from the McIntosh County Board of Tax Assessors. Affectionately known as “The General”, she had a firm hand when needed but was still kind and gentle. When she saw the needs of others she would not hesitate to assist in any way possible and she was a prayer warrior. She was a member of the Townsend Church of God and was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie O’Berry, parents, George and Inez Johnson, and siblings, Harold Johnson, Lounette Johnson, and Janice Hoggard.
Survivors are her daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Doug Roberson of Darien, and Cindy and David Baxter of Ludowici; son, Steven O’Berry of Brunswick; sister and brother-in-law, Mavis and Ira Corbitt of Darien; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Karey Johnson of Darien, and Dennis and Tammy Johnson of Jesup; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday, March 11, at 11 AM from Darien Church of God with Rev. Dennis Johnson and Rev. Tommy Whaley officiating. Burial will follow in Plum Orchard Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 10 from 6-8 PM at the church.
