Thomas B. Wingate, Jr.

Ludowici – Thomas B. Wingate, Jr., 94, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2022.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Long County.  After working twelve years for ACL Railroad, he began his 30+ year career with ITT Rayonier, retiring as a millwright.  Tommy was a devoted and gentle family man, member and deacon at First Baptist Ludowici, and was a US Army veteran of WWII.  He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 73 years, June Warren Wingate, siblings, Mary Lena Wasdin (A.D.), Billy Wingate (Joy), and Bobby Wingate, son-in-law, Thomas Lunsford, Sr., and brother-in-law, Ray Gordon.

Survivors are his daughters and son-in-law, Lila Janet Lunsford of Allenhurst, and Vicky and Nicky Wells of Ludowici; sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy, III and Angie Wingate, Kerry, Sr. and Billie Ann Wingate of Ludowici, Danny, Sr., and Danette Wingate of Screven, and Stephen, Sr., and Mercedes Wingate of Port St. Lucie, FL; sister, Eloise Gordon of Jesup; sister-in-law, Willene Wingate and Shirley Warren of Jesup; fourteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 8 at 11 AM at First Baptist Ludowici with Rev. Brad Boynton and Rev. Andy Pusser officiating.  Burial will follow in Baggs Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Active pallbearers will be Bryan Wingate, Sr., Bryan Wingate, Jr., Kerry Wingate, Jr., Mark Wingate, Christopher Wingate, Danny Wingate, Jr., Nicholas Wells, Stephen Wingate, Jr., Alex Wingate, Thomas Lunsford, Jr., and Kerry Wingate.
