Terry Huggins

Metter – Reverend Terry Shaley Huggins, Sr., 78, met his Lord and Savior on Monday, November 6, 2023, at Augusta University Medical Center in Augusta, GA.  He loved the Lord with all of his heart.  He was a minister of the Gospel for almost 60 years.  With his beautiful and loving wife of 56 years by his side, they built many churches and led many to Salvation.  He also loved mission work and was able to go spread the gospel to other countries.  One of the things “Brother Terry” is most known for is his ability to sing and play the piano.  After taking 9 months of piano in braille, at a blind school he attended in Macon, GA., he went on to become part of a singing group called “The Singing Saints” which traveled and sang together for many years.  They also made an album with some songs that Brother Terry assisted in writing.  After leaving “The Singing Saints”, he taught both of his daughters to sing and he started a small family group, “The Huggins Trio”.  Brother Terry attended Restoration Worship Center in Metter, GA., where he was very active in ministering to the “Angels in Flight” Recovery Center (a recovery program for addiction/co-occurring disorders).

Brother Terry was preceded in death by his “baby precious” of 56 years, Shirley “Nita” Huggins; his father and mother, Reverend Shaley and Mary Huggins; his grandson, Evan Powers; and his sister, Annette Goeller.  Survivors are his daughters and sons-in-law, Cendra and Tony Brown of Metter, GA., and Lorinda and Keith Thompson of Fort Walton Beach, FL.; son and daughter-in-law, Terry, Jr. and Brooke Huggins of Temple, GA.; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Darlene Huggins of Statesboro, GA.; 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be on Thursday, November 9 at 2 p.m. at Youngs Island Community Church, 1153 Youngs Island Comm. Church Road, NW, Townsend, GA 31331, with Pastor Tony Brown officiating.  Burial will follow in the Wallace-Deverger Cemetery with Reverend Danny Stilwell officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Active pallbearers will be Tanner Brown, Devyn Powers, Corey Braswell, Charlie Rowe, Brad Workmaster, and Pastor Brian Brown.

The family wishes to especially thank his nurses, Miranda, Meygan, and Hadiya, who went above and beyond in his care.
