Townsend – Talmadge Henry Deverger, 88, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2023, in Jacksonville, FL. He was a native and lifelong resident of McIntosh County and retired from Union Camp/International Paper as a parts manager. An active member of the McIntosh County Volunteer Fire Department for 27 years, he served as treasurer of the Eulonia Station. Talmadge was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, gardening, and farming. He was an active member of Morgans Chapel United Methodist Church where he served on numerous committees, sang in the choir, and managed the “BBQ Crew” for many years. He was preceded in death by his sister, Josey Chapman, brother, George Deverger, and son-in-law, Gary Hare.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Denise “Dinky” Deverger; daughter, Brenda Hare; sons and daughters-in-law, Timmy Deverger and Helen, Mark Deverger and Shelia, and Loyd Deverger and Kelly; brother and sister-in-law, Albert Deverger and Faye, all of Townsend; grandchildren, Jason & Christina McIntosh, Amy Lane, Wesley & Brooke Deverger, Beth & Chris Chapman, Mandy Vaughn, Sean & DeAnna Vaughn, Rachel & Kevin Lewis, Gary Allen & Amber Hare, Brittney & Justin Rozier, Nick & Kasie Deverger, and Kallie Deverger; great-grandchildren, Emma, Ansley, Cora, Callen, Harper, Rhett, McKenzie, Morgan, Hannah, Aaliyah, Justin, Nicholas, Taylor, Austin, Emily, Tyler, Emerson, Locklyn, Rylee, Isaac, Theodore, and Reagen; great-great-grandchildren, Clayton, Ariana, and Eilla; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, April 21 from 6-8 PM at Morgans Chapel UMC.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 22 at 2 PM at Morgans Chapel UMC with Rev. Larry Stricklin officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace-Deverger Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Scott Haynes, Dave Peruzzi, Jeffrey NeeSmith, Frank Williams, III, Lynn Walters, Daniel Moore, Sam Clark, and Tad Richardson.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the McIntosh County Volunteer Fire Department, Darien High School class of 1954, and the Morgans Chapel BBQ Crew.
