Crescent – Sheila Poppell Howard, 59, passed away Friday, July 7, 2023, at her home under the care of her family and Hospice of the Golden Isles. Born in Hinesville, she lived in Long and McIntosh counties most of her life. She worked as a waitress at Buccaneer Club, Huddle House, and for the previous 12 years at Altman’s in Eulonia. She was a giving lady who enjoyed time spent with family and doing things for others. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Marcella Poppell, brother, Tommy Poppell, and grandson, Colin Lucas Brown.
Survivors are her daughters, Crystal Howard of Darien, Ashley Smith of Ludowici, and Amy Brown of Crescent; son, Charles Howard, III (Rhody) of Rincon; sister, Suzanne DuBose of Sumter, SC; brother, Rodney Poppell of Jesup; fourteen grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on Monday, July 10 at 11 AM at Howard Funeral Home in Ludowici with Rev. Danny Stilwell officiating. Private burial will follow in the Poppell Family Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 9, from 5-7 PM at the funeral home chapel.
Active pallbearers will be C. C. Reed, Jr., Colby Reed, Tavon Anderson, Matthew Duran, Gene Smith, III, and Elijah Ellison.
