Darien – Sandra Lynette Waters Parker, 85, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, under the care of Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick. She was born to Raymond Wallace Waters, Sr. and Gladys Pearl Kenner Waters on March 3, 1940, in Brunswick, GA. She was the eldest of seven children. She lived in Darien, GA (the Ridge) for over 57 years. She attended Darien High where she played on the school’s basketball team. She was voted most athletic and best all-around by her classmates. She graduated in 1958, serving as Vice President of her class and graduating with the most prestigious honor as Valedictorian. She retired from the State of Georgia after 22 years in Human Resources with Department of Family and Children Services and returned after one year of retirement to a part time position as bookkeeper with the McIntosh County Chamber of Commerce where she was employed for over 13 years up until hospitalization weeks prior to her death. She was a member of Crescent Baptist Church for over 70 years where she held many titles including Sunday School teacher, pianist, and treasurer. Her hobbies included cooking, crocheting, cutting grass, fishing, spending time with grands and great-grandchildren, and in her younger years she was an avid deer hunter. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Raymond “Buzzy” Waters, Jr., and Daniel Waters.
Survivors are her daughter, Misty Thomas (John) of Crescent; sons, Heath Mixon (Kimberly) and Gerald Mixon both of Darien; sisters, Sherri Peavy (Doug) of Shellman Bluff, Debbie Lee of Tifton, and Ramona Hanlin (Jim) of Mt. Storm, WV; brother, David Waters of Midway; step-daughters, Brenda Boyer (Chris) of Aiken, SC, Becky Blocker (Edward) of Bainbridge, GA; grandchildren, John Bradley “Brad” Thomas, Jr. (Jesi) of Hahira, GA, Bryan Mixon (Emily) of Darien, Malorie Thomas of Crescent, Miles Mixon (Leah) of Rincon, Sydney Mixon, Tucker Mixon, and Zach Mixon of Ft. Myers, FL; step-grandchildren, Daniel Owen, Summer Schroder (Myles), Dillon Blocker, and Nic Blocker (Amber); great-grandchildren, AnnMarie Thomas, John Bradley “Tripp” Thomas III, Urijah Mixon, Maverick Mixon, Eli Mixon, Lillie Mixon, Indiana (Indi) Mixon, Finnick (Finn) Mixon, with her 9th, Sutton Trucke on the way; step-great-grandchildren, Tenley Schroder, Briley Schroder, and Karley Schroder; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral service will be Saturday, February 7 at 2 PM at Crescent Baptist Church with Bro. Justin Ellis officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Brad Thomas, Bryan Mixon, Tucker Mixon, Zack Mixon, Miles Mixon, and Buzz Saunds.
Honorary pallbearers will be her Crescent Baptist Church Sunday School class.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Crescent Baptist Church or Hospice of the Golden Isles.
