Rudine (Wells) Smith

Savannah – Ella Rudine “Dee” Wells-Smith, 81, of Savannah, Ga passed away peacefully in Athens, Ga with her beloved daughter Nicole by her side on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. Dee was born in Ludowici, Georgia on June 23, 1942, to Archie and Ula Mae Wells (Yarbrough). In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Tami Denise Smith. She is survived and forever remembered by her daughter Nicole Smith of Athens GA, and her brothers Gene Wells and her sister-in-law Sue of Wrightsville, GA and Herman Wells and her sister-in-law Rita of Ludowici, GA, and a host of nieces and nephews. 

 Dee graduated with honors from Ludowici High School in 1960. After graduating, she met and married Robert “Bob” Smith, who was her husband for 34 years. Dee was a devoted military wife and mother and served as the bedrock behind the uniform. Dee lived in various states in the US and lived overseas in Germany twice during her lifetime. Dee settled in Savannah, GA, and created a comforting and beautiful home for her family. She took pride in decorating her home and enjoyed caring for her family and spending time with friends. She was a very supportive mother and loved her daughters unconditionally. Dee was also an avid lifelong tennis player who passionately loved the sport on and off the courts. She was a fierce, feisty, independent woman whose compassion and kindness touched the lives of so many. Dee was a devout Christian and a member of the New Life Fellowship in Savannah, GA. Her faith was central to her life, and she often encouraged others with God’s love. 

Dee was such a warm and shining soul, and she will always hold a special place in our hearts. The family invites you to join them in remembrance of her on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 11:00 am at Howard Funeral Home, 57 Oak Street, NW, Ludowici, GA 31316.
