Townsend – Ruby Denise “Dinkey” Deverger, 85, passed away Monday, July 8, 2024, under the care of her family and Coastal Hospice. A native and lifelong resident of McIntosh County, she worked for 10 years in the local school system and was a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting and cooking, but especially spending time with her family. She was an active member of Morgans Chapel Methodist Church and a dedicated supporter of the firefighters of McIntosh County. Her husband of 67 years, Talmadge Deverger, sisters, Dorothy Keiger, Betty Hope, and Catherine Wallace, brothers, Milton Wallace and Hyde W. Wallace, Jr., and son-in-law, Gary Hare, preceded her in death.
Survivors are her daughter, Brenda Hare; sons, Mark Deverger (Sheila), Timothy Deverger (Helen Lane), and Loyd Deverger (Kelly); sister, Sallie Griffin, all of Townsend; grandchildren, Jason & Christina McIntosh, Amy Lane, Wesley & Brooke Deverger, Beth & Chris Chapman, Mandy Vaughn, Sean & DeAnna Vaughn, Rachel & Kevin Lewis, Gary Allen & Amber Hare, Brittney & Justin Rozier, Nick & Kasie Deverger, and Kallie Deverger; great-grandchildren, Emma, Ansley, Cora, Callen, Harper, Rhett, McKenzie, Morgan, Hannah, Aaliyah, Justin, Nicholas, Taylor, Austin, Emily, Tyler, Emerson, Locklyn, Rylee, Isaac, Theodore, and Reagen; great-great-grandchildren, Clayton, Ariana, and Eilla; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 11, at 11 AM at Morgans Chapel Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Stricklin, Rev. James Sapp, and Rev. Wesley Deverger officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace–Deverger Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 10, beginning at 6 PM at Morgans Chapel.
Active pallbearers will be Bill Murphy, Bill Wallace, John Wallace, Tom McDonald, Leroy Deverger, Bruce Deverger, Bubba Deverger, and Josh Dasher.
Honorary pallbearers will be Marian Heeps, B. J. Comer, II, Chaselyn Phillips, D. L. and Maryann McIntosh, Kim and Dave Perruzzi, Brenda and Steve Horton, and all public safety personnel in attendance.
