Robert Thomas Obituary

Robert Pierce Thomas, 74, made his last drag on Earth on June 1st, 2023, and is now shrimping in the River of Life with the ultimate Co-Captain. Robert passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, under the care of GHC Hospice. Robert was born on April 7, 1949, to the late Hayden and Bessie Thomas in McIntosh County, GA. He was a lifelong commercial fisherman and an avid outdoorsman. Robert was the captain of numerous shrimp boats through the years, he spent the most time on the Sapelo Lady, Sebrina Rose, and My Shadow. He also made a second career in commercial crabbing on The Grey Ghost.

Robert is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth Thomas. His children: Allen Thomas, of Darien, GA, Sebrina (Russell) Dinkins, of Darien, GA, Rosie (Carl) Poppell, of Newberry, SC, Hope Thomas, daughter-in-law, of Darien, GA, Lori Thomas, daughter in law, of Darien, GA, His Siblings: Virginia McNear, MaryAnn Vamadore, Louise (Richard) Scheer; His Grandchildren: Jordon (Carlton) Sawyer, of Valona, GA, Corbin (Jason) Poppell, of Darien, GA, Chase Davis, of Darien, GA, Kirstie (Brad) Talbert, of Brunswick, GA, Haley (Dexter) Smith of Crescent, GA, Russell (Cayleigh) Dinkins Jr. of Panama City Beach, Florida, Amber Dinkins, of Brantley GA, Jonathon (Savannah) Davis, of Cumming, GA, Morgan Thomas, of Darien, GA, Grace Gordon, Hayden Thomas, Lillian Poppell, Hope Gordon, Addy Poppell, Leilah Poppell, Marley Poppell, Grayson Poppell, 14 Great-Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Robert is preceded in death by: Hayden and Bessie Thomas (parents), James Thomas (son); siblings: Charles Thomas, Harry Thomas, Raymond Thomas, Paul Thomas, George Thomas, Marion Thomas, Alma Thomas, and Margie Jackson.

Funeral services will be Sunday, June 4, at 1:30 PM at Golden Isles Church of God with Pastor Nathan Smith officiating.
