Robert "Bob" Heffley, Jr.

Ludowici – Robert “Bob” Heffley, Jr., 70, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2022, under the care of his family and GHC Hospice. Born at Ft. Campbell, KY, he began his long life of service delivering papers, cutting grass, and shoveling snow.  At 16, he began public safety work with Laurel Rescue as a first aid provider, later enlisting in the US Army where he would serve until retirement in 1989.  Continuing his life of service, Bob would work in civil service both in Georgia and South Carolina, but was best known for his service to Liberty County EMS and Long County EMS and fire department.  He not only worked for the fire and EMS but was instrumental in getting the services off the ground by helping obtain grants and then continued by training over 40 firefighters into their service.  He taught hundreds of CPR courses over the years, served as Long County EMA director for three years, serving Long, Wayne, Liberty, and Tattnall counties during various incidents as well.  Bob was so entrenched in emergency service that some people were known to call him on his cell phone rather than calling 911.  Bob also worked alongside area law enforcement agencies earning respect among his public safety peers.  Bob was not born in Long County, but thankfully, he got here as fast as he could, but truly was at home wherever he was.  He was a member of Little Rock Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Linda Heffley of Long County; daughter, Heather Gibson (Jammie) of Ludowici; sons, Robert Burgess (Karen) of Minneola, FL, and Robert A. Heffley (Christa) of Ludowici; sister, Mary Dawkins (Michael) of Stevensville, MD; ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services with honors will be Tuesday, December 27 at 2 PM at A New Beginning Church with Rev. Shon Cunningham and Rev. Robert Long officiating.

Visitation will be Monday, December 26 from 5-8 PM at the church.

Burial will be private.
