David Niven Swilley, age 70, of Levy County, Florida, passed away on February 13, 2026. He was born to Hugh and Ruby Swilley and was raised on the family farm near Trenton, Florida. Niven lived and worked for many years in Ludowici Georgia, before returning home to Levy County.
A man of remarkable skill and discipline, Niven was gifted in many areas. He was especially adept at operating and repairing heavy equipment, possessed a strong aptitude for mathematics, and was known for his precision.
Quiet and reserved, Niven was a man of few words. Known for his strength, courage, and quiet confidence, he was admired by many and deeply loved by his family.
He is survived by his sister Nada Ramona Barber Beauchamp (James) of Chiefland, Florida; nephews Vadin Barber (Tracy) of Bronson, Florida; Paul Chambliss (Joyce) and Thomas Chambliss (Ann)of Tupelo, Mississippi; Robert Swilley (Leslie) of Madison, Mississippi; nieces Charmian Chambliss (Melvin) of Vicksburg, Mississippi; Lisa Swilley Algarin (Alex) of Lutz, Florida; Sherry Swilley of Trenton, Florida; and Sonya Chambliss of Surprise, Arizona; along with numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, two sisters, three brothers, and two nieces, two nephews and a great niece.
Services for Niven Swilley will be held Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 11 AM at Weems & Sons Funeral Home, 715 West Park Avenue, Chiefland, Florida 32626
