Nita Huggins

Statesboro – Shirley O. “Nita” Huggins, 74, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro.  “Mrs. Nita”, as everyone loved to call her, had a beautiful smile, a sweet spirit, and was a true example of a Godly woman.  Mrs. Nita had an in-home daycare for thirty-five years where she had an impact on many children in the Bulloch County area.  Everyone adored her that knew her and many of the children she kept grew up to be pillars in the community, often reaching out to her to keep their own children.  She served in ministry beside her loving husband of fifty-six years and under that ministry, many churches were built, and many souls were saved.  She received a bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan College in Special Education.  She was of the Church of God faith and attended Aaron Worship Center in Portal.  She was preceded in death by a grandson, Evan Powers, and her siblings, Susie Rowe, Estelle Denison, Delores Phillips, and Donnie Wallace.

Survivors are her husband, Rev. Terry Huggins, Sr. of Statesboro; daughters and sons-in-law, Cendra and Tony Brown of Metter and Lorinda and Keith Thompson of Chattanooga, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Terry, Jr., and Brooke Huggins of Temple; sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Tommy Rowe of Townsend; brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Phyllis Wallace of Townsend; 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren (with one more on the way), and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday, August 4 at 2 PM at Youngs Island Community Church with Pastor Tony Brown officiating.  Burial will follow in the Wallace-Deverger Cemetery with Rev. Danny Stilwell officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
