Townsend – Myrtle Lee Sanders, beloved mother and grandmother, went to meet her Heavenly Father on Monday, June 1, 2020 under the care of family and Heartland Hospice. She was 90 years old and a life-long resident of McIntosh County.
Everyone that knew her knew of her love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a member of the Townsend Church of God for over 65 years and was a Sunday School teacher for just as long. She loved to read her Bible and study God’s Word so that she could share it with others. Through the years countless stories have been told of her dedication to her church and her Sunday School class. In 2004, she was inducted into the Church of God Hall of Christian Excellence, a very prestigious honor in the church.
Mrs. Sanders was a hard worker and was employed by the Rich Seapak Corp. in Brunswick, Georgia for 39 years, rarely missing a day. Her family celebrated her retirement in 2000.
She was an avid flower lover and took pride in her many backyard beauties. Yardwork was looked at as a hobby by her instead of a chore. Upon retirement she would spend countless hours raking and mowing her lawn; a job she thoroughly enjoyed.
Family was very important to her; her children and grandchildren often sought out her Godly wisdom and they loved hearing stories of her childhood and the faithfulness of God. This is one of the things that will be missed the most.
She is survived by two children, Maxine Oglesbee of Townsend and Gilbert Sanders of Savannah, GA; five grandchildren, Michael Oglesbee (Lisa), Keith Oglesbee, Jackie Rowe (Billy), Scott Rozier and Amy Handley (John); seven great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren and a special sister in law Mildred Rozier. Preceding her in death are her parents, Hampton and Lola Rozier, her husband, Jack Sanders, her infant son Brian Sanders and a daughter Judy C. Maulden. Her siblings also preceded her in death, as she was the last of seven children.
