Townsend – Mickey D. Ryals, 79, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at his home under the care of his family and GHC Hospice. Born in Townsend, he lived there all his life where he owned and operated Ryals Body Shop for over thirty years. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mickey had an appreciation for vehicles and spent many hours restoring old ones and was a Ford man. He was a US Army veteran having served as a tank driver during the Viet Nam era. He was a member of Townsend Church of God and preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Essie Ryals, sister, Edith Poppell, and brothers, J. L. Ryals, Harlis Ryals, and Eddie Ryals.
Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Alice Willis Ryals of Townsend; daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Harry Thomas of Townsend; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Christen Ryals of Darien; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mason and Bobbie Ryals, Carlis and Sue Ryals, Kenny and Janice Ryals all of Townsend; sisters-in-law, Oner Ryals, Nellie Ryals, and Billie Ryals, all of Townsend; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Pat and Jerry Newham of Vidalia and Hubert Franklin of Reidsville; six grandchildren, Jaci Smith (Dylan), Hance Thomas (Salee), Jase Ryals, Cam Ryals, Presley Ryals, and Harry Thomas; three great-grandchildren, Easton Smith, Tymber Smith, and Tinley Thomas; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 8 at 11 AM at Townsend Church of God with Rev. Jamie Rivera and Rev. Danny Stilwell officiating.
Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday August 7 from 5-8 PM at the church.
Active pallbearers will be Leonard Ryals, John Ryals, Barry Ryals, Ray Ryals, Terry Ryals, Roy Ryals, David Ryals and Jerry Ryals.
Honorary pallbearers will be P. G. Hoggard, Jeff Poppell, Charles Rowe, Billy Middleton, and Mickey’s great-nephews.
Social distancing is to be observed and wearing of masks is encouraged during the services.
