Ludowici – Mavis Smith Drawdy, 97, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2023, under the care of her family and GHC Hospice. Born in Dexter, she grew up in Long County where she graduated from Ludowici High School, class of 1945. She lived in Mobile, AL for several years, raised her children in Brunswick, and returned to her hometown of Ludowici. She worked in retail sales for Belk and JCPenney, managed restaurants, including the Sand Dollar on Jekyll Island, and worked at the Long County Library. She was the oldest living member of First Baptist Ludowici where she was also a member of the Berean/Mary Gordon Sunday School Class and was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert E. Hardin, Jr., and Charles C. Drawdy, Jr., granddaughter, Valerie Vaughn, and siblings, Marrion S. Mitcham, Malvin Smith, Dr. Milledge Smith, and Danette Chapman, and son-in-law, Cleve Dryden.
Survivors are her daughters, Phyllis Vaughn (Jim) of Eulonia, Barbara Gibbs (O. D.) of Warsaw, MO, Brenda Hardin of Nassawadox, VA, Roberta Dryden of Bainbridge, Pat Burns (David) of Powder Springs, and Margie Hartley (Gordon) of Jacksonville, FL; numerous grand, great-grand, great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
***Due to family illness, burial will be private, and a public Memorial service will be held at a later date. ***
