Townsend – Roy Mason Ryals, Sr., 87, died Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at his residence under the care of his family and Hearth Hospice and on his 63rd wedding anniversary. He was a native and lifelong resident of McIntosh County and retired from Union Camp after more than thirty years of service. A family man and avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening and attended Eulonia Church of God of Prophecy. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Roy Mason Ryals, Jr, parents, Leonard and Viola Ryals, siblings, J. L., Edith, Harlis, Mickey, and Eddie, daughter-in-law, Gwen Ryals and son-in-law, “Crab” Moore.
Survivors, all of Townsend, are his wife, Bobbie Poppell Ryals; daughters and son-law, Cheryl Moore and Donna and Stacy Deal; sons and daughter-in-law, Gary and Sheila Ryals, Jerry Ryals, Ray Ryals, and Barry Ryals; brothers and sisters-in-law, Carlis and Sue Ryals and Kenny and Janice Ryals; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 1 at 2 PM at Townsend Church of God with Rev. Jamie Rivera, and Rev. Danny Stilwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Davis Cemetery in Long County.
Visitation will begin at 6 PM Friday, April 30, at the Ryals residence on Leonard Ryals Road, NW, in Townsend.
Active pallbearers will be Bill and Keith Rowe, Scott Rozier, Leonard, Terry, and Jason Ryals.
Honorary pallbearers will be Hearth Hospice Staff, Wayne Deal, Harry Milton, Julius Rozier, grandsons, great-grandsons, nephews, and Brickston Hunting Club members.
