Hinesville – Marion Homer Eason, 79, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, under the care of his family and Hospice of South Georgia. He was born in Wayne County, GA and raised in the Gum Branch Community. He was a member of the Gum Branch Baptist Church and attended school in Liberty and Long Counties. Soon after graduation, Marion was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. He served his country in honorable fashion, followed by his continued support for the United States Military.
Marion was preceded in death by his parents, Homer A. and Mary M. Eason; father and mother-in-law, John C. and M. Harvene Gustafson; brothers, Billy, Dale, and James Eason, and Gilbert Groover; sister, Gwen Burch.
Survivors are his wife of 46 years, Kathy Eason of Hinesville; daughters, Kimberley (Freddie) Ramos of Macomb, MI and Tracy (Troy) Ray of Hinesville; grandchildren, Ryan (Alicia) Ramos, Christian Ramos, Devon Ray, Amber (Jeff) Elliott, and Hunter (Bri) Ray; 6 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; brothers, Eurith (Marilyn) Eason of Hinesville, and Joe (Nancy) Eason of Register, GA; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Gustafson, Linda Gustafson, and Brenda (Johnny) Anglin, all of Austin, TX; several nieces and nephews.
Marion held various jobs, in and around Hinesville, that included Hinesville Ford, GA Game & Fish Warden, Civil Service Employee on Ft. Stewart/HAAF, and lastly as a respected paint contractor. Anyone that knew Marion knows that he loved Jesus, his family and playing music. Gospel and Country music were his roots. As a talented musician, he would write his own lyrics and music as well as putting music into other people’s words. In his younger days he was a member of “The Believers”, a local and mostly family gospel group. Many years later, he and several cousins formed “Gum Branch Gospel Singers” and sang at various churches and benefits.
Marion was known as Katie’s husband, Grandpa, Uncle Rooster, and The Man in Black; but to many he was “Homer”. One day Homer found Facebook and he soon had an audience that was just about worldwide. He enjoyed sparring with you on any subject! God blessed this man with a sharp wit and a generous, loving heart. He will be dearly missed.
