Ludowici – James Marcus Yarbrough, 68, went to be with Jesus on Sunday, March 2, 2025. He was born May 19, 1956, to Florence and James (JC) Yarbrough. Marcus retired from the National Guard Training Center on Ft. Stewart in 2005 after 26 years of service as a heavy equipment operator and enjoyed being outdoors before his health failed. He was known as the Rye Patch Mayor who never met a stranger and loved cooking and baking. He loved his church family at A New Beginning Church and especially sitting out front on Sundays to welcome everyone entering the doors. If needed, Marcus would truly give you the shirt off of his back! He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Marcus Colon Yarbrough, brothers, Larry and Levy Yarbrough, and a brother-in-law, Jerry Gilner.
Survivors are his daughter, Jamie Henderson (Cordell) of Hinesville; sons, James Woods of Clyo, and Mark Yarbrough of Bath, NY; companion, Selisa Hearn; special cousins, Faye and Allen Harris; sisters, Doris Gilner and Kathy Kersey (Larry) of Ludowici; bonus children he helped raise, Brittney Butrum (Wesley), Kathleen Richardson (Mikey), Kayla Rose, and many others who called him daddy; grandchildren, Landon, Lillianna, Lorali, and Jamie Lee Woods, Terry and Sophia Butrum, Audrey Kelly, and Dashawn Henderson; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 8 at 11 AM at A New Beginning Church with Pastors Tom Gardner, Libby Gardner, and Rev. Michael Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Elim Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 7 from 5-8 PM at the church.
Active pallbearers will be James Woods, Landon Woods, Jon Dixon, Donnie Chambless, Josh Guyett, and Brad Schmidt. Big Mike Dollins will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
