Hinesville – Lucas Matthew Atkins, 27, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2021, in Hinesville. Born in Hawaii, he lived in Liberty County most of his life, graduating from Bradwell Institute in 2012. He worked in food service at Winn Army Hospital on Ft. Stewart for seven years. His hobbies included gaming, fishing, and board games, particularly Monopoly. Lucas was a devoted and active member of Gum Branch Baptist Church where he served in missions, traveling to various locations including Haiti, Romania, VA, TN, and AL, among others. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jimmy White, Jerry and Linda Atkins, and Arthur Kreutz, Sr., great-grandparents, Elizabeth Bingham, and Gladys Ready, and uncle, Tim Atkins.
Survivors are his parents, Markeeta Dunn and Matt and Cathy Atkins of Hinesville; sister and brother-in-law, Kenzie and Gage Stewart of Richmond Hill; brother, Joshua Atkins of Hinesville; maternal grandmother, Doris White of Trinity, AL; paternal grandmother, Barbara Kreutz of Pleasant Mount, PA; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 30, at 4 PM from Gum Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Gabe Gill officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be two hours prior to services at the church.
Active pallbearers will be Justin Thrift, Josh Glandon, Charlie Wilson, Christian White, Gage Stewart, and Logan Hyde.
Honorary pallbearers will be coworkers from Winn Army Hospital.
