Hortense – Louis Edward Carter, 78, died Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at his home under the care of his family and GHC Hospice. Born in Savannah, he lived in Brunswick most of his life, moving to Hortense twenty years ago. He retired as an ironworker, mostly building bridges, and had helped in the construction of the World Trade Center in New York City. He also retired from Sea Island Resort and was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, boating, and time with his family. He was Baptist by faith and preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Carter, and son, Louis W. Carter.
Survivors are his daughters and sons-in-law, Lori and Furman Davis of Townsend, and Tammy and Steven Lee of Darien; sons and daughter-in-law, Lee Carter of Woodbine, and Bryan and Rachel Carter of Darien; brothers, Frank Carter of Aiken, SC, and Leroy Carter of Pooler; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be Saturday, February 26, at 1 PM from the Howard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Stilwell officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the chapel.
