Obituary

Ludowici – Virgil Lee McFann, 83, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2023.  Born in Ohio, he lived most of his life in Long County.  Lee was a veteran of the US Army, serving a year in Korea.  After his return from Korea, he married Elinor Sue Fulton.  Upon leaving the service, he became a firefighter at Ft. Stewart, later transferring to the maintenance department until his retirement.  After retirement, he owned and operated McFann’s Construction, worked with his wife in her business, Southern Decorator, and provided maintenance for Gum Branch Baptist Church.  He enjoyed playing softball, was an avid golfer, and loved spending time with his family.  He was a member and deacon emeritus at Gum Branch Baptist Church where he was a former Sunday school teacher.  His wife of 60+ years, Sue McFann, preceded him in death.

Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry Long and Kenny of Ludowici; son, Brian McFann of Ludowici; sisters and brother-in-law, Patricia Tolliver and Barbara Burkitt and Kenny of Piketon, OH, brother and sister-in-law, Ralph McFann and Dee of Piketon, OH; grandchildren, Clay Long (Tina), Kelly Simmons (Cale), and Cori Levesque (Kevin); great-grandchildren, Hali Long, Rhet Long, Layton McFann, Colin Levesque, with two more on the way; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Friday, June 2 at 11 AM at Gum Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Gabe Gill officiating.  Burial will follow the church cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Active pallbearers will be Clay Long, Cale Simmons, Kevin Levesque, Doug Williams, Jon Long, and Steve Coleman. Rhet Long, Layton McFann, and Colin Levesque.

Honorary pallbearers will be Rhet Long, Layton McFann, Colin Levesque, and the Sr. Adult S. S. class of Gum Branch Baptist Church.
