June Wingate Obituary

Ludowici – June W. Wingate, 91, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah.  A native and lifelong resident of Long County, she retired as manager of Altamaha Federal Credit Union where she was instrumental in its establishment.  She was dedicated to her Lord and as a member of Ludowici First Baptist Church was a G. A. Leader, taught the Berean Sunday School class, and served several years as church secretary.  In her retirement years she enjoyed time spent with family, fishing, working crossword puzzles, and was an Atlanta Braves fan.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Laura Ann Warren, brothers, Jasper Warren, Herman Warren, and Howard “Bo” Warren, and a son-in-law, Tommy Lunsford.

Survivors are her husband of 73 years, Tommy Wingate, Sr. of Ludowici; daughters and son-in-law, Lila Lunsford of Allenhurst, and Vicky and Nicky Wells of Ludowici; sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Angie Wingate, Kerry and Billie Ann Wingate of Ludowici, Danny and Danette Wingate of Screven, Stephen and Mercedes Wingate of Pt. St. Lucie, FL; fourteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 20 at 2 PM at Ludowici First Baptist Church with Rev. Andy Pusser and Rev. Brad Boynton officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Burial will be private for family only.

**Social distancing will be observed at the church and wearing of face masks is encouraged. **

Active pallbearers will be Nicholas Wells, Danny Wingate, Jr., Stephen Wingate, Jr., Thomas Lunsford, Jr., Alex Wingate, Mark Wingate, Kerry Wingate, Jr., and Bryan Wingate, II.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bryan Wingate, Sr., Christopher Wingate, and the Berean Sunday School class.

Remembrances are suggested to Women on Mission through Ludowici First Baptist Church, St. Jude’s or Shriners Children’s Hospital.
