Bluffton, SC – John Dare Howell, 58, died Friday, February 3, 2023, after a short illness. Born in Florence, SC, to the late Charles Dare Howell and Martha “Tootsie” Wall Howell, John was raised in the Bluffton and Hilton Head area and attended The Citadel and Georgia State College. He lived all over the world, working in shipping logistics, before retiring to Bluffton about 10 years ago. John then worked with his father for several years in the heating and air conditioning business. John was his own person. He loved the outdoors and felt at home hiking and camping. One of his favorite sayings was, “I’m going to live until I die,” and he did. John was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Lesa Benitez, and a brother, Chuck Howell.
Survivors are his sisters, Toyie H. Robinson, Cyndie H. Bradford of Hilton Head, and Bellamy H. Murphy of Savannah; a sister-in-law, Donali Howell of Shellman Bluff; eleven nieces and nephews, four great-nieces and a great-nephew.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Habitat for Humanity Hilton Head, where John enjoyed volunteering, www.habitathhi.org
