Plant City, FL – James Gordon "Jimmy" Marterson, Sr., 72, passed away Friday, February 2, 2024, in Plant City. Born in Eastman, he lived most of his life in Hillsborough County, FL, and retired from Brownlee Citrus in Plant City as a diesel mechanic and shop manager. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He was a member of God’s Way Worship Center in Jesup and was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Mitchell, and grandparents, Homer and Martha Scarborough.
Survivors are his wife of 53 years, Margie Woods Marterson of Plant City; daughter, Tammy Harris of Lakeland, FL; sons, James G. Marterson, Jr. (Carrie Thompson) and Kevin Marterson (Melissa George) of Plant City; brothers, Eddy Mitchell (Deborah) of Wardell, MO, Donald Mitchell (Mike Castleberry) of Alpharetta, and Louis Mitchell of Jesup; special cousins, Louise Dixon and Gwen Mallard; 8 grandchildren, 4 Great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his faithful K9 companion, Gizmo.
Mr. Marterson will be taken to his family home on Old Screven Road in Jesup for visitation starting at 5 PM on Wednesday, February 7.
Funeral services will be Thursday, February 8 at 1 PM at God’s Way Worship Center in Jesup with Pastor William Sloan officiating. Burial will follow in the George Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Robbie Finch, Matthew Finch, Charles Woods, Tim Stone, Caleb Graham, and Mickey Woods.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of God’s Way Worship Center in attendance.
