Hinesville – James Thomas “Jimmy” Carter, 83, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Memorial Health in Savannah. A native of Bryan County, he grew up in Savannah and lived in Liberty County most of his life. He worked for many years for Sherwin Williams in Savannah before working as a deputy for the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department for 18 years, retiring in 2006. An outdoorsman, Jimmy enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, and drinking coffee at the Ludowici Huddle House. His wife, Annette Deal Carter, preceded him in death in December 2024, and his brother, Wallace Lee “Jack” Carter (Margie).
Survivors are his children, Cheryl Arnold (Kevin) of Savannah, Debbie Dees (John) of Baxley, David Martin (Leisha) of Odum, and Greg Martin (BeBe) of Kingsland; grandchildren, Blaze (Samantha) Martin, Christopher Martin, J. C. Dees, Dylan Martin, Zach Martin, and Josh Martin; great-grandchildren, Levi and Shelby; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday, January 17 at 11 AM at Howard Funeral Home with Elder Jason Deal officiating. Visitation will be from 10 AM until 11 AM prior to the service.
Burial will be in Lake Chapel Cemetery in Appling County.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lamar Cook, Daryl Maney, Fred Hand, Marty & Casey Adams, and Papa and Grandma Eason.
