Townsend – Jerome Allen Hewitt, I, 68, passed away Monday, January 16, 2023, in Jacksonville, FL. He was born in Frankfort, MI, but lived in McIntosh County most of his life. He was a residential painter, and a “horse trader” when it came to classic cars. Years ago, while working in Chattanooga, TN, Jerry jumped into the Tennessee River and saved a drowning child, which is typical of his giving heart and nature. He was a devoted family man and a member of Crescent Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tammy Howard Hewitt, son, Jerry Hewitt, II, father, Versal Hewitt, and sister, Shelly Rowe.
Survivors are his daughter and son-in-law, Valerie NeeSmith and Jeffrey of Townsend; son, Quinton Hewitt of Gloucester, VA; mother, Oral Hewitt of Hartselle, AL; sister and brother-in-law, Nadine Vian and Scott of Mansfield, OH; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike Hewitt and Faye of Hartselle, AL, and Clifford Hewitt and Missy of Mansfield, OH; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, January 20, from 6-8 PM at the Howard Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 21, at 11 AM at Crescent Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Stilwell officiating.
Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Little Ed Trutt, Kaleb West, Jaden West, Jerome Hewitt, II, Ricky Howard, and Michael Howard.
Arrangements will be announced by the funeral home upon completion.
