Hinesville – James Albert Wells, 85, passed away Monday, June 20, 2022, at his home under the care of his family and Compassus Hospice. Born in Long County, he traveled during his military service, settling back in Liberty County where he lived most of his life. He was retired from the US Army after twenty-two years of service, was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he received a medal for valor and was a Purple Heart recipient. He retired from civil service at Ft. Stewart and from the Liberty County School System as a bus driver. He was preceded in death by his wife, Freida Wells, and brothers, Earl Wells, Grady Wells, and Derrell Wells.
Survivors are his daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette and Frank Zabala of Evans; son and daughter-in-law, Clifton and Terri Wells of New Braunfels, TX; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Margie Wells of Ludowici; grandchildren, Amanda Cliett (Jimmy), Alanna Havlic (Bobby), Rachel Schneider (Austin), Amber Santana (Jonathan), and Nicholas Zabala (Madie); great-grandchildren, Noah, Natalie, Luke, Olivia, Jude, Cole, Aurora, and Leo; special friends, Joann Thomas, Debi Brant, and Wanda; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 24 at 11 AM at the Howard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Glenn Ring officiating. Burial will follow in Elim Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the chapel.
Active pallbearers will be Frank Zabala, Bobby Havlic, Nicholas Zabala, Jonathan Santana, Austin Schneider, and Jimmy Cliett.
