Ludowici – James Clifford Hunter, 69, passed away Monday, April 24, 2023, in Savannah. Born in Franklin, TN, he traveled throughout his military career, settling in the Long and Liberty County area for the past 40+ years. He served in the US Army on active duty for 10 years, followed by service in the Army National Guard, retiring in 2000. After retirement he worked at Hinesville Builder’s Supply, Lowe’s, and for himself, owning and operating Jim’s Home Improvement. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and keeping his yard in immaculate condition. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, Richard, Dean, and Roy.
Survivors are his wife, Karen Howard Hunter of Ludowici; daughters, Krystal Rhoden (Alan) of Ludowici and Ashley Hunter (Lori McCampbell) of Pooler; son, James “Bubba” Hunter (Joy) of Ludowici; sisters, Shirley Ann Craig of Lake Panasoffkee, FL, Mary Ann Hunter of Tampa, FL, and Ann Harris of Sale Creek, TN; grandchildren, Destinee McElroy, Amari Hargrove, Hunter Rhoden, and Brielle Hunter; great-grandson, Robert; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday, May 1, at 11 AM at the Howard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Gardner officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 30, from 4-6 PM at the funeral home.
