Ludowici – Irene Bonus Hicks, 62, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2025, in Savannah. She was born in Dasol, Philippines, and lived in Long County for 19 years. She worked at Shoney’s in Hinesville and most recently at Ollie’s in Hinesville. She enjoyed the outdoors, tending to her garden and fishing, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Irene was a member of St. Stephen’s First Martyr Catholic Church in Hinesville and was preceded in death by her parents, Maximo and Sofia Buya, and a brother, Bernard Buya.
Survivors are her husband of 21 years, Jimmy Hicks; daughter, Sofia Correl (Jeff); son, Donald Jenkins, III, all of Ludowici; sisters, Florence Buya and Fannie Buya, and a brother, Buyng Buya, all of the Philippines; 2 grandchildren, Nola and Marley; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 16, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Howard Funeral Home. A vigil service will follow at 7 p.m., with Father Paul O’Connell presiding.
Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, May 17, at 10 AM at St. Stephen’s First Martyr Catholic Church with Father Paul O’Connell presiding. After the Funeral Mass, Irene’s remains will be carried to the Philippines, where she will be laid to rest at her family plot.
