Mamie Inez Johnson, 89, passed away Monday, January 6, 2020 at home under the care of her family and Georgia Hospice Care. Born in Cottondale, FL, she had lived in McIntosh County most of her life. She worked a short time in the McIntosh County school system but spent more time as a homemaker. The backbone of her family, she was a prayer warrior and reverently instilled the word of God into her family. Because of her faith all of her children were saved. She served her Lord at Townsend Church of God as pianist for over forty years and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a member of Darien Church of God and was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Johnson; children, Harold Aubrey Johnson, Marian Lounette Johnson, and Janice Ruth Hoggard; siblings, Celester Napier, Eudean Amerison, Verlie Amerison, May Benefield, Milton Amerison, Jean Drummond, Lorene Smith, John Amerison, and Doris Amerison; great-grandson, Jacob Scott Bolin.
Survivors are her daughters and son-in-law, Wanda O’Berry of Darien and Mavis June and Ira Corbett of Brunswick; sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Karey Johnson of Darien and Dennis and Tammy Johnson of Jesup; sister, Vercie Lee Cox of Darien; twenty-one grandchildren, forty-seven great-grandchildren, fourteen great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 10 at 12 Noon from the Darien Church of God with Rev. Dennis Johnson, Rev. Tommy Whaley and Evan. Jason Johnson officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Georgia Hospice Care.
