Ludowici – Haroldene H. Salter, 86, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2024, at her home under the care of her family and Hospice of South Georgia. Born in Ludowici, she lived in Pt. Wentworth, Garden City, and Savannah most of her life, returning to Long County in 2006. She was a private Kindergarten teacher, a retired librarian for Chatham County, and a homemaker who enjoyed reading and gardening. She was a member of Elim Baptist Church and the Adult Sunday School class. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Hart Howard and Sallie Mae Zorn Howard, and her siblings, Olive Jenkins, Willis Howard, Morris Howard, and Miriam Wheeler.
Survivors are her husband of 66 years, Ken Salter; daughter, Tina Salter; son, Howard Salter; grandsons, Dillian Morse and Jessie Morse, all of Ludowici; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 29 from 7-9 PM at Elim Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be on Monday, December 30, at 2 p.m. at Elim Baptist Church, with Rev. Michael Howard and Rev. Greg Bentley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Jessie Morse, Dillan Morse, Bobby Neal, Clark LaRoche, Clay Rowe, and Keith Jenkins will be active pallbearers.
The Adult Sunday School class of Elim Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
