Ludowici – Franklin Eugene “Gene” Nasworthy, 89, passed away on Saturday, April 18, at Doctor’s Hospital of Augusta. Born in Crisp County, GA, he lived in Long County for more than 40 years. He was a welder by trade, but was unlimited in skills and ability. Mr. Gene had an unmatched work ethic and used his skills to build and maintain his own farm, diligently working until his accident. His work was not limited to his own property, as he was quick to assist his neighbors and friends when needed. He also built his own race cars and won 1st place in 32 of 33 races, finishing 2nd in the other. He was a US Navy veteran. He faithfully attended and was a member of Jones Creek Baptist Church in Ludowici, and he attended Eulonia Church of God of Prophecy. He was preceded in death by his wives, Sarah Nasworthy and Mollie Nasworthy.
Survivors are his daughter, Karen Wimberly of Dry Branch; son, Michael Nasworthy (Libby) of Lake Sinclair; sisters, Shirley Smith (Fred) and Bootsie New of Fitzgerald; 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 24, at 2 PM at Jones Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Allan Pierce and Pastor Danny Stilwell officiating. Burial will follow in Jones Creek Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 1-2 PM prior to services at the church.
Pallbearers will be Richard Holmes, Jay Holmes, Colton Batchler, Franklin E. Nasworthy, II, Matthew Nasworthy, and Brad Dasher.
