Freeman Henson Obituary

Hinesville – CW3 (Ret.) Freeman Leo Henson, 89, died peacefully in his sleep on his birthday, Thursday, May 9, 2024, surrounded by his family and under the care of GHC Hospice.  He was born May 9, 1935, in Walnut Ridge, AR, and raised on a farm in Hoxie, AR.  He was the only child of Ima Nadine Whittaker and Freeman Oscar Henson.  At age 22, Freeman joined the US Army, first working as a military policeman.  He was promoted to Criminal Investigation Agent within the Criminal Investigative Command and obtained the rank of CW3.  His foreign deployments were two tours each in Germany and Korea, retiring January 1, 1981, with 23 years of service.  Freeman was a humble man with a ready smile and easy laughter, and he loved his family and country.  Over the years, he was a good steward of the land, planting many trees.  He especially loved to plant live oak acorns and was fortunate to live to see them grow into majestic-sized oaks.  He knowingly married a showhorse crazy lady and wholeheartedly supported her hobby.  He constructed barns, planted pastures, hauled feed, and drove a big truck and trailer rig to horse shows over several states.  He was there at the shows and encouraged her whether she won or got the gate.  He was a sincere friend to the horse show crowd.  Freeman was a born-again Christian and a member of Elim Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Sharon Davis Henson; three children, Aaron Henson (Sharon) of Walnut Ridge, AR, Joe Lee Henson (Robert) of Atlanta, and Kimberly Denise Henson of Cape Coral, FL; granddaughter, Danielle Henson Chambers (Alex) of Paragould, AR; three great-grandchildren, Kayden, Lyliee, and Adyson.
