Franklin Dunham

Ludowici – Joseph Franklin “Boss” Dunham, 84, passed away Monday, July 1, 2024, at Hospice of South Georgia in Jesup.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Long County and a veteran of the United States Air Force.  He worked for a few years as a driver examiner for the state patrol before becoming an air traffic controller.  He began his career with the FAA at Hartsfield in Atlanta before transferring to Savannah International Airport, where he retired after 30 years of service.  In retirement, he, along with his sister, purchased and renovated rental properties and built rental homes as well.  He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and visited 49 of the 50 states.  Franklin was a Christian and was preceded in death by his parents, Winn and Mary Lee Dunham, and his siblings, W. C. Dunham and Alice Manning.

Survivors are his wife of 58 years, Elaine Gordon Dunham; daughter, Karla Kicklighter (Earl); sons, Wynn Dunham and Franklin “Bo” Dunham (Brandy), all of Ludowici; sister, Donnie Smith of Flemington; grandchildren, Zackary Long (Jessica), Stacey Bell (Erick), Caleb Kicklighter, Philip McGowan, Kayla Francon (Brice), Bryson Lyons (Maddie), Dillon Dunham, Katie Lyons, and Colton Dunham; 8 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  

Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, July 3, at 2 PM at First Baptist Ludowici with Rev. Earl Kicklighter officiating.  The family will receive visitors at the church from 1-2 PM.
