Ludowici – Chief Frank A. “Little Frank” McClelland, Jr., 69, died in the line of duty on Saturday, September 15, 2018 in his beloved city of Ludowici. The lifelong resident of Long County retired from the Liberty County Sheriff’s Dept. as a lieutenant with 21 years of service and was currently serving as chief of police in Ludowici. He was a former member of the Ludowici City Council having served 26 years and was a US Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank, Sr. and Geraldine Chambless McClelland and a brother, Harry “H.M.” McClelland. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Ludowici.
Survivors are his wife of 42 years, Cindy Chapman McClelland of Ludowici; daughters and sons-in-law, Signe Arlene Hartley and Larry of Midway, Krisdean McGowan and Tad and Kathryn McClelland of Ludowici; sister and brother-in-law, Kathy Goode and Jackie of Ludowici; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike McClelland, Sr. and Rhonda of Ludowici and Rusty Clark and Theresa of Townsend; aunts and uncles, Pat Higgins, Diane Chase and Jimmy Horne; mother-in-law, Vera Livingston of Ludowici; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5-8 PM at the Geraldine McClelland Elementary School cafeteria.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 19 at 4 PM at First Baptist Ludowici with Rev. Eric Rentz and David Simmons officiating.
Burial will follow in Jones Creek Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Terry Beecher, Steve Coleman, Merrill Chapman, Ricky Chambless, Royce Chambless, and Hal Skipper.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ludowici P.D. officer s and staff, Liberty County Sheriff’s Dept. members, all City of Ludowici employees, and all public safety personnel in attendance.
Remembrances are suggested to FBC Ludowici Building Fund, Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Homes or Wounded Warrior Project.
