Ferrell A. Dixon

Hinesville – Ferrell A. Dixon, 82, died Friday, January 8, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah.  Born in Waycross to Hanion Alpha and Pearlie Carter Dixon, he was raised in Blackshear and lived in Hinesville since 2002.  After working many years in private industry, he retired as a maintenance manager with twenty-seven years of federal service.  A man of many talents and an amazing aptitude for building things, Ferrell started acquiring skills in both residential and commercial construction at an early age.  As the son of a self-taught building contractor, he was trained by the best.  He always enjoyed the challenge of solving a difficult problem and rarely failed in reaching a solution. Additionally, during his high school and college years, he made quite a name for himself as a basketball star. He was a member of Rye Patch Baptist Church where he served as senior deacon, Sunday School teacher and former treasurer, and was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.

Survivors are his wife of over forty years, Donna Long Dixon of Hinesville; daughter, Sandra Dodge of Cocoa, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Al, Jr. and Peggy Dixon of Richmond Hill; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenny and Sherry Long of Ludowici; grandchildren, Melisa Dunham, Kellie Dixon, Grey Dodge (Lauren), and Morgan Dixon; great-grandchild, Brantley Dunham; nephews and nieces, Clay (Tina) Long and Kelly (Cale) Simmons; great nephews and nieces, Lexi Rowland, Hali Long, and Rhet Long.

Funeral services will be Monday, January 11 at 11 AM at Rye Patch Baptist Church with Bro. John Holbrook officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Active pallbearers will be Clay Long, Cale Simmons, Gunther Pearson, Danny Altman, Will Stanfield, Keith Stanfield, and Rhet Long.
