Erwin Cook

Townsend – Erwin O. Cook, 74, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023.  A native of FL, he lived in GA since 2016.  He retired after 50 years of service from Gulf County Correctional Institution in Pt. St. Joe, FL, attaining the rank of major.  He was also a K9 handler and trainer, working alongside his partner, Jake, and had taught classes at Gulf Coast State College.  He was an ordained minister of the Assembly of God Church and was a licensed minister through Walthourville Baptist Church, where he was a member.  A US Army veteran, he served 3 years in Viet Nam as a door gunner on Medavac choppers. 

Survivors are his wife, Janice Cook of Townsend; daughters, Nichole Amos of Alabama, Danyele Cook of Tallahassee, FL, Sarah Cook of Dayton, OH, Dancy Wear of Townsend, Jennifer Ferry of Meridian Ville, AL, and Pamela Ross of McDonough; numerous grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be Sunday, June 11 at 1 PM at Walthourville Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Weisel officiating.  The family will receive visitors at the church.
