Donald Strickland Obituary

Townsend – Homer Donald Strickland, 88, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at his residence.  A native of Bacon County, he lived in McIntosh County since 1968.  He was a retired powerhouse supervisor from Interstate Paper in Riceboro, a former coach for Oglethorpe Academy in Darien, and a recreation league baseball coach.  He was an avid fox hunter, a US Army veteran, and a member of Townsend Baptist Church.  His sister, Euvone Thrift, preceded him in death.

Survivors are his wife of 68 years, Cathryn Strickland of Townsend; daughter, Sheila Ryals (Gary) of Townsend; sons, Dewayne Strickland (Lyn) of Waynesville, and Mark Strickland of Townsend; sister, Janice O’Quinn (Al) of Brantley County; brothers, Darsey Strickland (Joyce) of Prattville, AL, Derrell Strickland (Kathleen) of Savannah, Curtis Strickland (Karen), and Mack Strickland (Susan) of Brantley County; 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 2, from 6-8 PM at Townsend Church of God.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 3, at 2 PM at Townsend Church of God with Rev. Danny Stilwell, Rev. Colby Brown, and Rev. Parnell Aldridge officiating.  Burial will follow in Whispering Pines Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Townsend Baptist Church.
