Curtis Bean Obituary

Jesup – Curtis Ray Bean, 57, passed away Monday, February 27, 2023, in Jesup.  For every life, there is a purpose.  Between Jesup and Ludowici, there weren’t many people that didn’t know Curtis.  He was famous in a small town, and he soaked up every second of it.  Curtis loved to make friends.  He loved to give hugs and was most famous for those.  He was also quick to give a compliment, knowing a pretty lady when he saw one!  Curtis loved Jesus.  He was a member of First Baptist Church in Jesup, where he sang with a pure heart, in the Happy Hearts Choir.  He loved singing “God is so Good”.  He also attended Calvary Baptist in Ludowici, and in his later years, Bethlehem Baptist in Jesup.  For many years Curtis attended the Wayne Service Center, or as he would call it, “school”.  While there, he worked hard.  Actually, he hardly worked, but in his mind, if he made enough to buy Coca-Cola and tea bags for a week, he was a rich man.  While Curtis had many physical and mental limitations, he was gifted with many attributes that made him extra special.  He had an astounding ability to draw.  He loved to draw characters from his favorite shows, “The Three Stooges”, “Star Trek”, and “Star Wars”.  Curtis couldn’t be outwitted.  He had a memory and intelligence that couldn’t be matched.  Above all the earthly things Curtis loved, he loved his family most.  Along with his parents and his sisters, he had an abundant bonus family.  In 1987, Curtis deemed himself a Howard and marked his permanent place in the family.  In those years, Curtis not only received love, but he also gave unconditional love, and he taught love.  He lived a life filled with wonderful times and many laughs.  He will be missed, but his purpose is fulfilled.  He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Gaye Mullins Bean, and foster mother, Mary Howard.

“My command is this: Love each other, as I have loved you”.  John 15:12.

Survivors are his sisters, Lesa Bean of Jesup and Teri Nieber of Darien; foster niece and caregiver, Jill Graham Poppell of Jesup; foster siblings, Ida Alexander, Beth Boyd, Susan Graham, Joann Boone, Tommy Howard, Jimmy Howard, Bruce Howard, Brian Howard, and Ray Howard; numerous nieces and nephews.
