Crystal (Whigham) Sands

Ludowici – Crystal Jamie Sands, 40, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2026, in Savannah.  Born in Ft. Sill, OK, she lived in Long County for 35 years.  She received her degree from Valdosta State University and was a Kindergarten teacher for the Long County School System.  Before teaching, she was an assistant store manager, and she attended Grace Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her father, Earl (Jackie) Whigham. 

Survivors are her husband, Lee Sands of Ludowici; daughters, Shelby Horner and Jamie Sands of Ludowici; sons, Blake Horner and Alec Horner of Screven, Tanner Horner of Hinesville, and Tyler Sands of Ludowici; mother, Saundra Whigham of Jesup; sister, Candi Pitts (Jacob) of Jesup; brothers, Joel Whigham of Garfield and Carl Whigham (Amanda) of Pleasant Mount, PA; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 11, at 2 PM at First Baptist Ludowici with Jacob Pitts officiating.  A private burial will follow in the Sands Family Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 10, beginning at 5 PM at Howard Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be family and friends.
