Christine (Jones) Lewis

Baxley – Christine Jones Lewis, 81, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at her home under the care of her family and Hospice of South Georgia. Born in Odum, she lived most of her life in Wayne and Appling Counties, retired from the Wayne County School System cafeteria, and was a homemaker and caregiver.  She enjoyed putting up summer vegetables and spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was a member of Melton’s Chapel Methodist Church in Appling County and was preceded in death by her husbands, Freddie Thornton and Robert Lewis, daughter, Debra Thornton, grandson, Jacob Thornton, parents, Leonard, Sr., and Lorene Long Jones, and siblings, Leonard, Jr., Gene, Kenny, Charles, and Herschel Jones.

Survivors are her son, Stacy Thornton (Tammy) of Jesup; sister, Vel James of Jesup; brother, Donald Jones (Hazel) of Jacksonville, FL; brother-in-law, Ted Thornton (Shirley) of Screven; step-daughter, Diane Lewis and step-son, Larry Lewis (Jeanie); grandchildren, Chase Thornton (Tiffany) and Luan Register (Brian); great-grandchildren, Anna, Jordon, Brantley, and Brendan; several nieces, nephews, and faithful friend and caregiver, Caroline Story.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 9, at 12 noon at Faith Chapel SCMC in Jesup with Rev. James Carter officiating.  Burial will follow in Big Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 AM -12 PM at the church.

Active pallbearers will be Steve, Michael, Brandon, and Ken Jones, Gary Pierce, and Luke Carter.
