Hinesville – Billy Devereaux Folker, 88, passed away Friday, June 28, 2024, at Hospice Savannah. Born in Liberty County, he lived there most of his life and in Pooler for several years. He served in the Georgia Army National Guard, Brigade 166, in Hinesville, retiring as a staff sergeant, and was retired from civil service at Ft. Stewart. He was a master gardener at the Bamboo Farm in Savannah and an avid golfer at Cherokee Rose Country Club in Hinesville. He enjoyed woodworking and tinkering in his spare time and cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of Elim Baptist Church and was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Marie Folker, son, John A. Folker, and siblings, Wiles Folker, Ashton Folker, Bubba Folker, and Belinda Flanigan.
Survivors are his daughters, Kimberly Connelly (Tim) of Savannah, Kelly Wilson (Amanda) of Anderson, SC, and Elizabeth Kangeter (Ray) of Pooler; son, Daniel Baxter (Erika) of Guyton; daughter-in-law, Kim Folker of Hinesville; sister, Shirley Carter (Jesse Padgett) of Hinesville; grandchildren, Cody Folker (Jordye), Meagan Folker, Jordan Dodd (Cameron), Preston Knowles, Griffin Knowles, Riley Scott, Abby Scott, Greyson Fields, and Minka Kangeter; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at Elim Baptist Church on Tuesday, July 2, at 11 AM. Visitation will be from 10 – 11 AM before the service.
Burial with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Daniel Baxter, Cody Folker, Preston Knowles, Griffin Knowles, Tim Connelly, Ray Kangeter, Riley Scott, and Mike Folker.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Liberty Independent Troop.
