Ludowici – Betty Jean Phillips, 69, passed away Monday, August 4, 2025, at her home in Ludowici, GA, after a courageous nine-year battle with cancer.
Small in stature but large in personality, Betty was known for her generosity, her incredible luck, her tenacity (and sometimes hardheadedness), and her outspoken nature. She was cherished as a loyal wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who loved unconditionally and with her whole heart. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Ludowici.
Betty rarely sat still for long. She loved to be on the go with her husband, Rodney—whether to the mountains, the coast to go crabbing, or her favorite, to cheer on her three grandsons at their baseball games, no matter the weather or extreme heat. She will be remembered as their biggest fan and most devoted supporter. Her absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew and loved her.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Elaine Williamson, and nephews Billy and Craig Deloach. Betty is survived and deeply missed by her husband, Rodney Phillips; daughters Megan Phillips and Katie Brannen (Josh); siblings, Carolyn Williamson, Stephen “Steve” (Sue) Williamson, and Paul Williamson; grandsons Brody Chambless, Autry Brannen, and Creek Brannen; and many nieces and nephews.
In accordance with her wishes, the funeral service will be private. Active pallbearers will be Zachary Deloach, Wade Williamson, Eric Williamson, Jason Williamson, Harold Long, and David Long. Honorary pallbearers include the ladies of the Mary Leigh Bennett Sunday School class.
In her final years, Betty generously donated to the Nunnally House in Brunswick, GA, which provides lodging for patients undergoing cancer treatments. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Nunnally House and Hospice of South Georgia.
