Ludowici – Mary Elizabeth Chapman Durst, 66, died Sunday, October 17, 2021, at St. Joseph’s in Savannah. Born in Ludowici, she lived there most of her life where she previously worked with DFCS and was a bus driver for Long County Schools the past ten years. Beth was known for being an outspoken person, never meeting a stranger, and leaving an indelible mark on those she met, but mostly for an enormous loving heart. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and a member of Jones Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Merrill Chapman, grandson, Jeremiah Smith, brother, Little Bill Chapman, and brother-in-law, Frank McClelland, Jr.
Survivors are her daughters, Tina Bell and Johnny Marsh, Amy and Monty Smith, of Ludowici, and Mindi Bell and Everett Mitchell of Hinesville; her mother, who followed her into eternity the next day, Vera Livingston of Ludowici; sister, Cindy McClelland of Ludowici; brothers, Kerry Chapman and wife, Pat, of Glennville, and Weyman Chapman, Sr. of Ludowici; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services, in conjunction with her mother’s service, will be Thursday, October 21 at 11 AM at Jones Creek Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in Jones Creek Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 20, from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
Active pallbearers will be Merrill Chapman, Weyman Chapman, Jr., Corey Poppell, David Marsh, Kerry Wingate, and Tommy Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Beth’s fellow bus drivers.
