Ludowici – Barry Dean Smith, 61, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of South Georgia. His early years were spent in Blitchton, but he lived most of his life in Long County. Barry was a hard-working man who could do any job before him and had worked with Freeman Contracting at Ft Stewart. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and time spent with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Freddy Sr., and Imogene Smith, brother, Freddy Smith, Jr., and father-in-law, Howard Hill.
Survivors are his wife, Brenda Smith of Ludowici; sister, Rhonda Smith of Ludowici; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathy and Al Tootle of Jesup, and Carla Goss of Pell City, AL; 3 stepsons and 3 grandchildren, Tommy, Brayden, and Ahlani; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be at Howard Funeral Home on Thursday, May 28, at 2 PM.
