Artis Powell Obituary

Hinesville – Artis Powell, Jr., 83, died Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville.  He was born October 27, 1937, in Florence, SC, and lived in Hinesville for the past twenty-seven years.  He was a retired drill sergeant from the US Army with twenty-five years of service.  In his retirement years, he enjoyed woodworking and traveling.  He was a Christian who loved his Lord and family and was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Powell, daughter, Siglenda Powell, and step-son, Gibby Alamo.

 

Survivors are his wife, Ginny Cantrell-Powell of Hinesville; step-sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Demi Alamo of Hinesville, Chris and Christine Cantrell of Baton Rouge, LA, Ernest and Diane Cantrell of Odum, and Jay Cantrell of Pickens, SC; adopted children, Jelynn McKeon and Micah Sloan of Hinesville; sister, Janie Johnson of Gretna, VA; brother, Herman Powell of Timmonsville, SC; nine grandchildren, several nieces, and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be Friday, July 2 at 11 AM at the Howard Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Carey Hendricks officiating. 

 

Burial with military honors will follow in Baggs Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be Thursday, July 1 from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
