Ann Hunter Obituary

Hinesville - Cherrill “Ann” Smith Hunter, age 78, passed away June 25th, 2022, surrounded by family at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, after a long illness. Ann was born on February 24th, 1944, in Greenville, South Carolina. She attended public schools there before her parents moved to Gainesville, Georgia where she completed her studies in Commercial Business Education. Her father, a radio personality, moved the family to Baxley, Georgia in 1962 to work at WHAB radio station. She graduated from Appling County High School the same year. She met the love of her life, Corbitt Hunter of Surrency while working at Fulghum drug store in Baxley. They were married on October 24th, 1964. Over the years Ann worked for a newspaper in Gainesville, as a manager of public housing in Baxley, in a cafeteria near Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas, where her husband was stationed, as a pharmacy tech, medical office manager, and telephone operator. She and her husband moved to Liberty County in 1968. Passionate about crafting, Ann gifted many creations to those she loved. She loved Fall weather and would travel to the mountains with her husband to see the leaves change colors and to visit all the various craft shops. She loved the Lord, her church, Southern gospel music, and soul-winning preaching. She and her husband would travel to many such events – the last being just this month. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis Johnson Smith and Carolyn Joyce Tillotson Smith, brother Franklin Ross Smith, sister Barbara Arlene Smith, and her dogs Casey and Jack.

She is survived by her husband Corbitt Dross Hunter, Sr.; son Corbitt Dross Hunter, Jr. (Tammy); daughter Brandi Hunter Kohari (Andy); grandchildren Elizabeth Ashley Hunter (Kenny), Jennifer Brooke Hunter (Caleb), and their Mother Rene Adams; Morgan Paige Williams, Madyson Kaye Williams, Alexis Jean Williams; Niece Candi Claxton Steele (Jimmy); and several other nieces, nephews, and many friends.
