Hinesville – Acey Lester Lewis, Jr., 80, passed away Thursday, August 29, in Hinesville. Born in Roda, VA, he lived in Liberty County since 1977. He retired from the US Army after 20 years of service having served two tours in Vietnam and attaining the rank of SFC. After military retirement, he served 20 years as a deputy with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department, retiring as a captain. He was a member of Altamaha Masonic Lodge #227 F. & AM, the Alee Shriners, and the Iron Knights. He attended Gum Branch Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his parents, Acey Lewis, Sr., and Lena Sturgill, as well as siblings Charlotte Trussel and William “Bill” Lewis.
Survivors are his wife of 56 years, Marion V. “Vickie” Lewis of Hinesville; sisters, Martha Jean Boyd of Silver Springs, CO, and Anna Ruth Stinson of Havana, FL; several nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, September 5 at 1 PM at the Howard Funeral Home with Rev. Gabe Gill officiating. Visitation will be from 12 – 1 PM at the chapel.
Committal services with Masonic Rites and full military honors will follow at 3 PM at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville.
