Ludowici – Roy Lee Miller, Sr., 91, passed away Friday, November 15, 2019 in Savannah. Born in Walthourville, he had lived most of his life in Long County and was a graduate of Ludowici High School. He was a US Navy veteran having served aboard the USS Shangri-La CV38 and retired as a comptroller from civil service at Ft. Stewart. He enjoyed restoring Mustangs and mechanic work in his spare time and was known as a tinkerer and expert repairman. He was a member and deacon of Ludowici First Baptist Church where he also served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Uldine McGowan Miller and daughter, Glenda Miller.
Survivors are his daughters and son-in-law, Dean Brown and Robert and Roxy Christian of Ludowici; son, R.L. Miller, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; sister, Catherine Beecher of Ludowici; brother and sister-in-law, Gene Miller and Annette; grandchildren, Dixie Dozier (Chris), Bubba Howard (Sharmon), Amy Corpe, Ashley Robbins (Chris), and Jeri Lester (Matt); great-grandchildren, Brian, Noah, Savannah, Grayson, Seth, Rhett, Chandler, Taylor, Elijah, Jessica, and Jersi. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 17 at 3 PM at Ludowici First Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Rentz officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Burial will follow in Baggs Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Brian Lester, Noah Howard, Grayson Howard, Rhett Dozier, Chandler Howard and Elijah Lester.
